I presume you have traveled far and wide, so I won’t describe the snow and towns we drove through, nor the grand palace we are now staying in. If I’m wrong, I’ll do better next time.

Petya – I don’t doubt you know who I mean – has been in fine form. He appears to be the only one enjoying himself. Many of the company is still mourning, and others would rather be anywhere than here. I think you know which side I fall on. From the few glimpses of him I’ve had, Karoly doesn’t know how to act in his home province.

Petya has been regaling anyone who will listen with tales of his youth and all the trouble he has gotten out of. He went as far as saying he thinks there’s nothing he couldn’t get away with if he really wanted to. Absolutely nothing. I wonder how far he’d be willing to test that. I imagine he can be very daring at times.

I’ll leave it there for now. I’m a novice correspondent but I’m sure you’ll point out ways to improve.

We expect to arrive in Povlisi on 1 Tijaniden, Traven.
